Mile 355.0 - LBD Carthage Point
355 LBD Carthage Point
Natchez river guide Adam Elliott found an interesting artifact about four miles below the Natchez Bridge LBD, 400 yds above the first dike above Carthage Point Towhead: an old timber framed wreck that becomes visible when the water falls below 20ft on the Natchez Gauge. Adam’s report: “I have yet to determine the age of name of the structure. It is my best guess that it is just a barge container that dates from no older than the 1930's. I say that due to the fact that some metal work is visible that appear very modern, just not too modern. There is nothing in the way of engines, control devices or superstructure that would lead me to believe that it was anything more than just a barge.”
